The NHL Season...

Alright, just as the NHL season sits at the brink of disaster the owners and the players suddenly start to exchange meaningful proposals at the last possible moment. I was watching "Sportscenter" last night and saw clips 6 or 7 NHL players chiming in on this madness. One of them was Matthew Barnaby. That's right Matthew -freakin'- Barnaby, the voice of reason. I was half expecting him to just start pummeling the reporters. Anyway, it occured to me at that moment that this was the best possible scenario for the NHL. Nothing would grab the sports headlines more than... "NHL Season Saved at 11th Hour". It certainly has more sizzle than... "NHL Players and Owners Agree to New Contract" (written several months earlier).

Hey, whether or not the freakin' season happens or not is anyone's guess at this point but at least the NHL infused drama and energy into what has otherwise been a yawn-inspiring news story the past 6 months.

Here's to hoping they make it back on the ice this season... if for no other reason than hear more from Matthew Barnaby, my favorite diplomat.
